Why Modelers Choose Vallejo
Manufactured in Spain to exacting standards, every Vallejo set is built around performance that serious hobbyists can depend on.

Dropper Bottle Precision
Vallejo’s iconic 17ml dropper format dispenses exact quantities onto the palette with zero waste, keeping unused paint sealed and fresh between sessions.

Historical Color Accuracy
Military hues across the Model Color range are researched against NATO, FS, and RAL standards, giving scale modelers reliable matches for WWII, Cold War, and modern subjects.

Non-Toxic Water-Based Formula
All acrylic pigments are water-based, non-flammable, and compliant with EU and US safety regulations — safe for painters of all ages and suitable for both brush and airbrush application.
The Vallejo Story: From Animation Studios to the Hobby Bench
Amadeo Vallejo and his wife Eugenie founded Acrylicos Vallejo in New Jersey in 1965, initially producing water-based Film Color acrylics for animated cartoon studios. Early clients included Hanna-Barbera, the legendary house behind Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones.
In 1969 the company relocated near Barcelona, Spain, where production expanded into fine art acrylics. By 1986, Vallejo had formulated the first acrylic colors purpose-built for airbrushing, followed in the early 1990s by the Model Color line — a dedicated range for scale modelers and miniature painters.
Today Acrylicos Vallejo exports to more than 55 countries and manufactures every paint formula in-house at its Valencia-area facilities. The catalog spans over 600 shades across roughly eight distinct acrylic lines, with all Model Color bottles now produced from recycled r-PET plastic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything needed to choose the right set, thin correctly, and get the most from every dropper bottle in the Vallejo range.
Yes, though thinning is recommended. A 1:1 or 2:1 paint-to-thinner ratio with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner works well at 15–20 PSI. Adding a few drops of Vallejo Flow Improver helps prevent tip dry.
Model Color is formulated primarily for brush painting and requires thinning for airbrush use. Model Air is pre-thinned from the bottle specifically for airbrush application, making it ready to spray straight away.
The Model Color line includes over 220 individual shades — covering opaques, metallics, and transparents — plus a growing selection of curated thematic sets for military, figure, and fantasy subjects.
Yes. All Vallejo acrylic colors are compatible with other water-based acrylics, as well as with the full range of Vallejo mediums, varnishes, and thinners.
Model Color adheres to plastic, resin, metal, and wood. Priming the surface beforehand is recommended to maximize adhesion and color vibrancy across all substrates.
Yes. Model Color bottles are produced from recycled and recyclable r-PET plastic. Empty dropper bottles are also available separately for mixing and storing custom color blends.

What Painters Are Saying
Real feedback from the modelers, miniature painters, and wargamers who keep Vallejo on their hobby bench.

The Military Colors USA set covered every scheme I needed for my Shermans. Opacity is excellent and the dropper tops make palette work so much cleaner than pot-style paints.

Bought the Skin Tones set for figure painting and the pigment depth is outstanding. Colors blend beautifully and the matte finish holds detail on 28mm scale perfectly.`

Been using Vallejo Model Color for three years across aircraft and armored vehicle builds. Consistency between bottles is rock-solid — no surprises batch to batch.
